My Details
I was born on the 11th.
July 1942, yes, I was a ‘War Baby’. I suppose I caused the usual problems for
my parents – childhood illnesses, getting into minor troubles etc! I always had
a great empathy for animals although I never considered myself as a potential
‘Pet Owner’. They were here for a reason and they all had their place.
I had a great deal of trouble with an
ear problem as a child and it was not cured until I reached eleven years old,
but by that time it had affected my education - time lost at school. As a
result, I spent my whole life as an unskilled worker. I served in the armed forces twice for short spells and spent
many years working on the Railway. There were many other jobs in between. My
wife, Ann, is a full time Coronary Nurse at the local hospital and it is she
who financially supports our work.
During the early 1880’s I became a
Biker, perhaps the happiest years of my life. But an accident at work soon put
paid to that aspect of my life and in 1989 I was forced to retire from work. It
was during 1986 that we acquired our first cat; from then on, our lives would
never be the same. Cats have dominated our world. Photography has also been one
of my great loves.
Although we did a small amount of
rescue work between 1986 and 1989, it was then that we joined a local Animal
Rescue Society and became ‘ Cat Rescuers and Co-ordinators’. In 1995, we went
independent because we wanted to work with problem cats rather than just take
them in and get them homed. Too many cats throughout the U.K. were being put to
sleep, (Euthanased) out of hand. We have never subscribed to this policy. We
never believed that F.I.V. and Fe.L.V. positive cats should routinely be put to
sleep and subsequent facts have proved us right. We are always available to
offer advice on the care of cats.
