Muffit
Muffit's story is one of
the saddest rescues we have ever dealt with. She was one of nine cats that
belonged to an old lady. In 1995 we were asked by a national rescue society if
we could rescue nine cats that had belonged to an old lady who had died and had
not been found for a week. It was obvious from the state of the cats and the
flat in which she lived that the lady had been too ill to take care of her self
or the cats for quite some time. It would not be appropriate to say what the
cats had been feeding on since the old lady had died but they were quite emaciated.
One of Muffit's kittens was dead and partially eaten but all the other cats
were alive though' traumatized.
One cat, an adult, was in such a bad state from
kidney and liver shutdown that she had to be euthanazed. All the other cats
except Muffit and her son Gussy were eventually tamed and re-homed. Gussy
stayed with us for five years. He had a serious lung problem that required
periodic treatment. He lived well until 2000 when his lungs finally gave out on
him and we lost him. Muffit still remains in care. She is still very nervous
although we can stroke her when she is eating, she does not trust humans at any
other time. She will probably stay with us for the rest of her life.
