Lucky
Lucky came into care in August 2000. A knobbly spleen was the least of her problems. All four of her pads had been badly burnt when she walked through acid that some fool had carelessly left lying around. The pads on three of her paws had been burnt away.
The big worry was whether or not the flesh would grow back. If not, one paw could be amputated, but not all four. It was the start of four months of intensive treatment. Lucky had to be kept confined in a small restrictive cage. Her paws were bandaged and had to have cream applied twice daily. In addition she was given steroids. It was necessary to line her litter tray with nappy liners since cat litter would further damage her paws. This also meant that we had to be constantly on hand to clean out her tray as soon as she used it.
Fortunately, Lucky was a patient and affectionate cat, so she was easy to treat. Slowly her paws healed so well that in January of 2001 she was able to go to a new and loving home. Her owner eventually adopted a companion cat for her and together they lead a very happy life.
